Ban the Van!!!

And who would have thought that two Louisiana DEMOCRATS are leading the charge against speed vans and red light cameras??  You know, at one point in our history, Democrats were actual liberals and not leftists...but, I digress.

To tell you how badly these speed vans and red light cameras piss people off, someone actually got out of their vehicle and shot and killed the driver a of a Redflex speed van in Arizona.  I'm not advocating violence, but obviously this intrusion pisses people off.  The red light cameras in various locales get spray painted and silly-stringed quite reguarly...a little civil disobediance rocks from time-to-time.

Enter Louisiana State Reps Cedric Richmond and Jeff Arnold--both Democrats, both of New Orleans--who've obviously had enough of the big brother bullshit too.  Their bill, scheduled to be heard in the upcoming legislative session, would terminate the use of red light cameras and cameras for the use of speed enforcement by 2010.  Here, here!!  Says Rep. Arnold

"In reality, it's about money," he said. "It really is not about enforcing the law. We're all for enforcing the law. But when you find ways to create more income for a municipality, it shouldn't be on the backs of citizens and their right to due process."

Where has that sentiment been expressed before??  I wonder if Jimmy Durbin is reading this...
